Governor Aliyu Clarifies Boreholes Controversy

By Muhammad Ibrahim, Sokoto

Governor Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto State has addressed the controversy surrounding the 25 solar-powered boreholes in Wurno Local Government Area. Speaking at the APC campaign rally in Goronyo for the Sokoto East Senatorial Zone ahead of the upcoming local government elections, Governor Aliyu clarified that the Sokoto State Government did not participate in the award of the contract for the project.

According to his media aide, Abubakar Bawa, Governor Aliyu stated that the contract for drilling 28 new boreholes across five locations in Wurno Local Government was not awarded by the state government.

“This project was not awarded by the Sokoto State Government; it is a project jointly funded by the World Bank, the state government, and the ACREsAL project, with the aim of making water accessible to Munki, Lugu, Wurno, Dinawa, and Marnona areas,” Aliyu explained.

He further emphasized, “We never participated in the process of awarding the contract for the drilling of these new boreholes. The issue of renovating boreholes in Wurno does not arise because you can’t repair what does not exist. There were no boreholes drilled in those places before we came into power, which is why we insisted on drilling new boreholes for those communities.”

Governor Aliyu also highlighted that his administration has executed various projects across the state without borrowing funds from any external sources. He said, “No contractor in the state is being owed by the state government because we ensure that contractors are never short of funds. This allows them to deliver quality projects within the stipulated period.”

The governor vowed to continue implementing people-oriented projects for the development of the state and solicited support and cooperation from well-meaning citizens so that the entire state could benefit from the government’s developmental initiatives.
