Governor Ododo Vows Justice for Fulani Killing in Kogi State

By Noah Ocheni, Lokoja

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Ododo, has ordered security agents to identify and prosecute those responsible for the killing of Fulani individuals in Isanlu, Yagba East Local Government Area.

In a statement released in Lokoja by Kingsley Fanwo, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, the governor emphasized that perpetrators will face the full weight of the law.

Actions Taken to Address the Incident

Governor Ododo directed security agencies to investigate the incident thoroughly, including questioning traditional rulers in the affected area. A particular traditional leader has already been suspended due to their alleged involvement.

He also urged Isanlu community leaders to warn their subjects against engaging in activities that jeopardize security in Yagba East and the wider Yagba Federal Constituency.

Crackdown on Criminal Elements

The governor called on the community to expose criminal elements within their midst. He stated, “Our administration is committed to pursuing all criminals in the state, regardless of their tribe.”

Ododo urged community leaders to sensitize their people on the importance of respecting the law and cooperating with law enforcement to combat insecurity.

Praise for Fulani Restraint

Governor Ododo commended the Fulani community for refraining from retaliatory actions. He praised their maturity and commitment to peace despite the provocation, thanking them for supporting the state’s security initiatives.

Emergency Security Meeting

To address the situation, the governor convened an emergency meeting involving government officials, security agencies, community leaders, and Fulani representatives. The meeting aimed to de-escalate tensions and prevent potential reprisal attacks.

Governor Ododo cut short a trip to Abuja to attend to the crisis, highlighting his administration’s dedication to maintaining peace and order.

Commitment to Peace and Security

The governor reiterated his administration’s promise to protect all residents of Kogi State and foster harmony among its diverse communities.

Local government chairman Hon. Dare Joshua applauded the governor’s swift intervention, which he said prevented a significant security breakdown in the area.

This incident underscores the importance of addressing communal conflicts promptly to maintain peace and prevent further unrest in the state.
