Group Petitions Tinubu Over Alleged Handling of Abducted Girls in Borno, Yobe

By Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

A civil society group, the Centre for Justice on Religious and Ethnicity in Nigeria (CJREN), has petitioned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the alleged handling of some abducted girls in Borno and Yobe states. In a letter dated March 3, 2026, and signed by its Director-General, Rev. Kallamu Musa Dikwa, the group called for what it described as equal justice for underage girls allegedly abducted in parts of the North-East.

CJREN referenced the case of a Muslim schoolgirl in Jigawa State who was reportedly reunited with her family, and urged authorities to ensure similar attention to four Christian girls allegedly abducted in Gadaga district, Garin-Goge village, Fika Local Government Area of Yobe State. The group named the girls and called for their safe return.

The petition also raised allegations concerning 18 Chibok schoolgirls reportedly rescued by the military and handed over to the Borno State Government. CJREN claimed the girls had not been reunited with their families and made further allegations regarding their welfare.

The group additionally alleged misconduct by some individuals described as “repentant” Boko Haram members, calling for investigation and protection of civilians. Efforts to obtain a response from the Borno State Government were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
