A group which goes by the name, Transparency Watch Initiative (TWI) has called for a reorganisation of
the Federal Capital Territory’s Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS) over inefficiency and incompetence of some ranking officers of the agency.
The call was made by the civil society group in Abuja by the coordinator of TWI , Umar Abba. He specifically leveled series of allegations against
a DRTS director, whom he did
not name. Abba alleged that the director has distorted the agency’s
administrative structure, sidelined experienced career staff, and improperly appointed unqualified individuals to key positions. “The operations of the DRTS today on major roads are manned by non-staff who cause commotion at all times due to inexperience,” Abba stated.
He said an educationist currently heads the operations department, while another educationist improperly leads the
engineering department. TWI also took issue with the DRTS handling of vehicle number plates and insurance policies. Abba alleged that number plates obtained from the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, are inequitably divided among the director, the head of motor vehicle administration, and the
general public.
