Gunmen attack Sokoto Police station, kill DPO, one other

Sokoto state Police command has confirmed an attack by gunmen suspected to be marauding bandits on Gidan Madi Divisional Police Headquarters in Tangaza local government area of the state .

The command Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Mohammed Sadiq Abubakar says the attack took place on Wednesday night but detail on the attack is still sketchy.

The police spokesman said there was an unwarranted attack on the Gidan Madi Divisional Headquarters last night.

Mr. Abubakar urged members of the public to await outcome of the investigation initiated by the state commissioner of police Sani Ka’oje.

However sources in the local government area told our correspondent that two police officers were killed in the attack and one of the victims is suspected to be the Divisional Police Officer DPO of the division.
