Gunmen Kill 14 in Plateau Community; Governor Urges Peace During Christmas Celebration

In a renewed wave of violence, gunmen allegedly killed at least 14 people in the Lisham Kwahasnat community, located between Mangu and Bokkos Local Government Areas of Plateau State. The night attack occurred over the weekend, prompting enraged villagers to retaliate by burning houses and destroying properties in different localities on Sunday.

While the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Alabo Alfred, stated he would gather information on the situation, Captain Oya James, the Spokesman for the Military Taskforce maintaining peace in the state, confirmed the killings. Captain James condemned the violence and announced the deployment of additional troops to prevent further unrest.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang, in a statement, urged citizens to embrace peace and love during the Christmas celebration despite prevailing challenges. He encouraged sharing love, exchanging gifts, and embodying values of love, charity, and selflessness. The governor acknowledged the state’s challenges, including security issues, economic hardships, and political concerns, reassuring citizens of the government’s commitment to alleviating these difficulties. Governor Mutfwang emphasized faith in divine intervention, called for hope, prayer, and peaceful conduct, wishing citizens joy, happiness, hope, and unity during the Christmas celebration. He prayed for divine blessings upon Plateau State.
