Heavy rains and stiff restrictions by the police meant that the bad governance protests in akwa ibom did not kick off successfully as expected.

This is even as few protesters turned up at the unity park kick off venue approved by the police authorities in the state with security agents at the venue far out numbering the protesters.

Most roads in uyo, the state capital and other major cities of eket and ikot ekpene were deserted with many passengers stranded due to the presence of few vehicles.

Most civil servants did not turn up for work while markets and most businesses were closed for fear that their shops should be looted.

Most people have opted to staying indoors even as most churches in their morning beginning of the month service encouraged members to stay indoors.

Some leaders of the protesters accused police of restricting them, “But some protesters left and may be preparing to mobilize elsewhere because of the remote location of the police approved venue.”

There has also been complaints over poor gsm network since morning with people accusing govt of using such means to sabotage the planned protest.

Governor umo eno had earlier held a stakeholders forum where leaders of some organisations like nlc and nans have backed out of the protest but have been accused of being compromised by government.
