How to create opportunities for yourself

You shouldn’t just sit and wait for opportunities, it is absolutely up to you to create them. You can’t sit around waiting, hoping that you’ll magically get an offer you can’t refuse. You have to make things happen yourself. If you’re not sure how to do so, here are a few ways to create more opportunities for yourself:

1. THE MORE, THE MERRIER
Send out resumes to every job that you’re interested in, even if you don’t think you’ll get an interview. What’s the worst that could happen? They’d throw your resume in the trash and that’s all. One of the best ways to create more opportunities for yourself is to just stay positive and apply to as many places as possible. You can always turn the offer down if you do get one.

2. BE BOLD
Don’t be afraid of acting confident during a job interview. When you’re being questioned, you’re meant to highlight your strengths. That means you shouldn’t be embarrassed of saying why you deserve the job over everyone else who applied. It’s what you’re supposed to do, so stop being worried about appearing cocky.

3. KNOW NAMES AND NETWORK
The more people you meet, the better chance you’ll have of getting a stable job. Even if you’re not fond of your boss, try to get along with her. She may be able to put in a good word for you in the future. She may even have a cousin who works in the industry you’re actually aiming to enter. You never know who will help you along in life.

4. CREATE A CLEAR RESUME
If you don’t have a flawless resume, then you can forget about getting hired. You need to make sure that your resume, cover letters, and any emails are free of spelling and grammatical errors. You want to look your best, so try your best to make all of your documents perfect.

5. LOOK AND FEEL FABULOUS
If you want to be a respected professional, you need to look the part. That means you need to buy clothes that are appropriate for the workplace and keep yourself looking clean. Don’t leave the house without brushing your hair or cleaning the dirt out from under your nails. You don’t want to be misjudged by your looks.

6. ALWAYS ON THE LOOKOUT
If you want to land your dream job, you always have to have your eyes open. Find websites that post job listings and check them every single day, even if you’re already employed. You don’t want to stick to your current job and miss out on a better opportunity.

7. ONLINE ADVANTAGES
The internet is a valuable resource. If you want to associate with others in your area of work, you can create a Linkedin profile. If you want to teach others about your line of work, make your very own blog. There are plenty of ways that the internet can help you achieve your goals, so don’t forget to use it when you can.

Never settle for a boring, bland job when you could be living out your dream. Of course, it might take a while to get to the place you want to be, so don’t give up after failing a few times.
