The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has provided a directory of contact details and email addresses for its branches nationwide, enabling citizens to report cash scarcity at Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) or bank counters.
The circular, titled “Cash Availability Over the Counter in Deposit Money Banks (DMBs) and Automated Teller Machines (ATMs),” became effective on December 1, 2024. Acting Director of Currency Operations, Solaja Olayemi, and Acting Director of Branch Operations, Isa-Olatinwo Aisha, jointly signed the document.
The circular directed Deposit Money Banks (DMBs) to ensure effective cash disbursement both over the counter and at ATMs. It also urged the public to report instances of cash unavailability using the provided channels.
Reporting Cash Scarcity
The CBN outlined two methods for citizens to report cash shortages:
- Phone Calls:
Call the designated phone numbers of the CBN branch located in the state where the incident occurred. - Emails:
Send an email detailing the incident to the specific email address of the CBN branch in your state.
Reports should include relevant details such as:
- Account name
- Name of the DMB (bank)
- Amount involved
- Time and date of the incident
These reports will help the CBN identify and address challenges hindering cash availability in affected areas.
Improving Currency Circulation
The apex bank affirmed that these measures would enhance cash flow and optimize currency circulation nationwide.
