Ibom Air Expands Fleet with Two Bombardier CRJ Aircraft

By Ogenyi Ogenyi

Ibom Air, owned by the Akwa Ibom State Government, has expanded its fleet with the addition of two Bombardier CRJ 900 next-generation aircraft, registered as 5N-CED and 5N-CEE.

In a statement released by the General Manager of Marketing Communications, Aniekan Essienette, Governor Umo Eno expressed his satisfaction with the new acquisition. “The addition of these two CRJ 900 aircraft is a testament to our administration’s continuous support for Ibom Air and our commitment to the ARISE Agenda, which focuses on strategic investments in sectors that stimulate economic growth and elevate our state’s status among others in the federation,” Governor Eno said.

Ibom Air’s CEO, Mr. Mfon Udom, also spoke about the significance of the acquisition, stating, “We are thrilled to welcome these two new CRJ 900 aircraft to our fleet. With this addition, Ibom Air now operates a total of nine aircraft, which includes two Airbus A220-300s and seven CRJ 900s.”

Udom further emphasized that the airline is not slowing down, saying, “To become a serious scheduled carrier, we must continue to grow our fleet. We are eagerly awaiting the delivery of the remaining nine Airbus A220-300s over the next three years.”

The two new CRJ 900s were acquired through an outright purchase, financed via a shareholder loan. This expansion will enhance Ibom Air’s capacity, improving connectivity and reliability for passengers.

The CRJ 900 NextGen aircrafts, part of the CRJ Series family, are known for their lightweight design and advanced aerodynamics, delivering improved efficiency and reduced operating costs compared to other aircraft in the same class. The CRJ 900 NextGen boasts a 5.5% reduction in fuel burn, offering significant fuel savings per aircraft.

The aircraft also provides passengers with enhanced comfort, including excellent legroom, bright cabins with large windows and LED lighting, as well as spacious overhead bins.
