ICPC Details Items Seized From Nasir El-Rufai’s Abuja Residence

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has outlined documents and electronic devices it said were recovered from the Abuja residence of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

The disclosures were contained in court filings before the Federal Capital Territory High Court in response to a N1 billion fundamental rights enforcement suit filed by El-Rufai. He is challenging his arrest, detention and the search of his home.

The ICPC said its operatives executed a search warrant issued on February 18 and carried out on February 19 at 12 Mambilla Street, Asokoro, Abuja. It stated that officers of the Nigeria Police Force were present and that the exercise was witnessed by his wife, Hadiza El-Rufai, and his son.

According to the commission, items recovered included financial records, asset declaration forms, business registration documents, loan records, land documents and share certificates. It also listed electronic devices such as flash drives, hard drives, laptops, mobile phones and a tablet, which it said were documented and sealed for forensic analysis.

The ICPC maintained that the search was lawful and part of ongoing investigations.

In a statement signed by his son, Bello El-Rufai, the family disputed the scope of items seized and described the warrant as invalid. They said his silence during questioning was a constitutional right and not evidence of wrongdoing.

The matter is pending before the court.
