Igodoigwe, spreading love everywhere

By Okechukwu Keshi Ukegbu

“Service”, according to Eldon Tanner, “is the rent we pay for living on earth”. Some scriptures emphasise the need for us to render humanitarian services. “Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to act. Do not say to your neighbour, ‘Come back tomorrow and I’ll give it to you’—when you already have it with you. — Proverbs 3:27-28; “Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done.” — Proverbs 19:17.

Hon Erondu Uchenna Erondu, has lived up to the quote of Mother Theresa that says spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier.Erondu has spread love everywhere and that is why the likes of the indigent persons from Nenu, Umuaro, Azuogwugwu, Osaa Ukwu, Ehere, Umuokahia 2, Isikor, among other communities within and outside Obingwa local government area, who benefited from his laudable gestures of building houses for them would not be in a hurry to forget because these gestures have registered an imprint in their memories. Indeed, Igodoigwe is not investing for the present but for the future.

By providing homes to these indigent persons, Hon Erondu has has reduced the risk of them developing mental risk. According a report, “a safe and good home reduces the risk of developing mental stress. The people further explained that” many homeless persons and people without befitting housing accommodation, face the risk of trauma and unstable lifestyle.

It is also noted that having a home increases the opportunity for homeless families and people befitting housing accommodations to establish strong social, economic and cultural ties with their host community. A survey says:” When people are included and integrated into the local community, they are more able to rebuild their lives and live in a dignified way”.

Shelter like food is synonymous in the order of human needs. This is because it protects one’s physical body, as well as mental relief, can be gained from having shelter. Also, it is an established fact that human beings function better when they have a place of recluse where they can retreat for personal and private space and introspection. It is also a place where one can find comfort in one’s immediate family and friends, away from the outside world. Humans require boundaries where they can protect themselves from unwanted interferences and interactions. A shelter in the form of a house provides all these factors which are necessary for the growth and development of a person.

Besides, individualism is necessary for any human being who wishes to be a contributing member of society. It is in solitude where humans generally have time to think and develop their faculties and abilities
