Impending Flood In Kogi, Flood Prone Residents Asks To Move To Higher Ground – NEMA

The Executive Secretary of Kogi State Emergency Management Agency (KOSEMA), Mr.Julius Mejiyan in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) cautioned people living in the flood prone areas to vacate immediately to avoid disaster of impending flooding in the state.

The creatipn of awareness campaign for flood prone communities in Kogi State according to him is to avert avoidable disaster in the state.

The awareness campaign for the “2020 flood preparedness, militagation response sensitization for flood prone communities was held at Sarkin Noma and Adankolo, in Lokoja metropolis.

Mr. Mejiyan who thanked the NEMA team for their support to the Agency in moment of monumental distress advised the Sarkin Noma and Adankolo communities to move to higher ground the moment they notice signs of flood approaching their homes.

Speaking earlier at the awareness campaign Head Operation Office Abuja (NEMA), Mr.Birtus Samuel says there is need for every community living along riverside to be on alert to impending flood as predicted by Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NIMET).

He pointed out that Nimet prediction shows that Kogi State might experience flooding this year
and enjoined Sarkin Noma and Adankolo communities to endeavour to clear their drainages which will enhance free flow of water ways.

In a remarks, the Head of Sarkin Noma community, Mallam Bala Musa Namama commended the efforts of NEMA and SEMA for the sensitization exercise regarding the impending danger and promised to adhere to precautions of NEMA to avert loss of lives and property.
