The Federal Government has assured Nigerians of forthcoming enhancements in national security, with the military expected to achieve notable successes. Bello Matawalle, the Minister of State for Defence, conveyed this message during a visit to Plateau State on Sunday.
Matawalle revealed that President Bola Tinubu had directed the military to pursue and decisively confront bandits and marauders. Emphasizing the need to address insecurity beyond media reports, he asserted, “You all are going to see the improvement, and successes will be recorded.”
During the visit, the former Governor of Zamfara State, alongside military service chiefs, assessed the recent incidents of violence in Plateau. The delegation included Chief of Defence Staff General Gabriel Musa, Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, and Chief of Air Staff Air Marshall Hassan Abubakar.
Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, who accompanied the delegation, pledged support for affected individuals. She assured that her ministry would provide relief materials to those displaced until they are properly resettled.
Edu stated, “The president has asked us to come to Plateau state and see what is on the ground as well as deploy immediate relief materials while people are currently displaced.” Collaborating closely with the military, the federal government intends to dispatch a humanitarian relief team to assist those affected over the next month.
