Vice President Kashim Shettima’s planned representation of President Bola Tinubu at the 2024 US-Africa Business Summit in Dallas, Texas, has been canceled due to aircraft technical faults, as announced by the Presidency.
Instead, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, will now represent President Tinubu at the summit, according to a statement released Monday evening by Shettima’s Spokesperson, Mr. Stanley Nkwocha.
The statement clarified that Vice President Shettima, who has returned to Abuja, will resume other national duties while Minister Tuggar attends the high-profile summit.
The US-Africa Business Summit, hosted by the Corporate Council on Africa, aims to facilitate economic cooperation and explore investment opportunities between the United States and African countries. It will feature dialogues, networking sessions, and plenaries with participation from political and business leaders.
Several African leaders, including Presidents Joseph Boakai of Liberia, Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi, Joao Lourenço of Angola, Mokgweetsi E. K. Masisi of Botswana, José Maria Neves of Cabo Verde, and Deputy Prime Minister Nthomeng Majara of Lesotho, are expected to attend the summit.
Minister Tuggar will participate in various sessions at the summit, including discussions on African infrastructure investment, agribusiness, and Africa’s energy future, as well as promoting investment opportunities in Nigeria.
He will also engage in sideline meetings and engagements before returning to Nigeria at the conclusion of his visit to the US.
