JUST IN: Amorim arrives Man United as Nistelrooy, three others leave

By Abigail Philip David

New Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim was warmly welcomed on his first day at the club on Monday. United confirmed his arrival in a statement titled “Ruben Amorim Arrives at Carrington,” featured on their official website.

The statement detailed Amorim’s arrival, describing how he was greeted with a hug from Chief Executive Omar Berrada and also welcomed by Sporting Director Dan Ashworth and Technical Director Jason Wilcox. The club shared images of the event, celebrating his introduction.

In a post on social media platform X, the club added, “It’s not just Carrington. It’s home. A warm welcome for Ruben Amorim at our training ground.” Amorim, who awaits visa processing, is expected to meet key staff members in preparation for his new role.

The 39-year-old Portuguese manager, known for winning two Primeira Liga titles with Sporting Lisbon, has signed a contract with United until 2027. He officially joins on November 11, with 13 days to prepare for his first Premier League game away at Ipswich Town on November 24.

Manchester United also confirmed the departure of Ruud van Nistelrooy and three other first-team coaches. A statement on X read, “Four first-team coaches have departed the club with our best wishes. Thank you for your unwavering commitment to our club.” The other departing coaches include Rene Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar, and Pieter Morel. The club expressed gratitude for Van Nistelrooy’s interim leadership, which concluded with a 3-0 victory over Leicester.

Van Nistelrooy, who had served as interim manager, expressed a desire to continue supporting the club and indicated he was open to further conversations with Amorim. When asked about staying in an assistant role, he said, “It’s a contract situation, but my desire is to help the club move forward. We’ll see how things develop.”

Erik ten Hag, United’s former manager, was dismissed in late October after a challenging start to the season. Ten Hag, who joined United in May 2022, had defended his tenure, highlighting his achievements, which included two trophies in his two full seasons.
