JUST IN: FAAN shuts down KFC over discrimination against ex-Ogun gov’s son

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced the closure of a KFC branch located at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos State following allegations of discrimination against a Passenger with Reduced Mobility (PRM).

In a statement released on Thursday by Mrs Obiageli Orah, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at FAAN, the closure was attributed to the violation of Lagos State laws concerning People with Special Needs, specifically Section 55 of the General Provisions on Discrimination.

The decision came after a PRM reported discriminatory treatment experienced at the airport, prompting swift intervention by FAAN’s Managing Director/Chief Executive, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku. A management team was dispatched to investigate the incident, comprising key personnel such as the Regional Manager South West, the Ag. General Manager Public Affairs, and the International Terminal Manager.

Based on the team’s findings, FAAN has ordered the closure of the KFC outlet at MMA where the incident occurred. Additionally, the KFC management has been instructed to issue a written apology to the affected PRM and display a policy statement of non-discrimination visibly at the outlet’s entrance before resuming operations.

FAAN expressed its sincere apologies to the affected passenger and reassured all airport users of its commitment to upholding the rights of every individual without discrimination.

The victim of the discrimination, Adebola Daniel, son of former Ogun State Governor Gbenga Daniel, recounted his distressing experience at the KFC outlet through a series of tweets posted on Wednesday via his Twitter handle, @DebolaDaniel.

Further details will be provided as the situation unfolds.
