JUST IN: Niger residents protest high cost of food, living

In a swift response to the escalating cost of living and food prices, residents of Minna, the capital of Niger State, took to the streets in a massive protest. The demonstrators, gathering in substantial numbers, obstructed the Minna-Bida Road around the well-known Kpakungu roundabout from as early as 7 am on Monday.

Despite police attempts to manage the crowd, tensions rose, leading protesters to demand the withdrawal of the police presence. In response, the police resorted to firing multiple shots in the air to disperse the gathering. Further details are expected to follow.
