JUST IN: Unknown Arsonist Sets Mosque on Fire, Traps Worshippers in Kano

An unidentified arsonist set a mosque ablaze in the Laraba Abasawa community of Gezawa local government area, Kano State, early Wednesday morning.

The attack occurred during the early morning ‘Subh’ prayer, resulting in injuries to several worshippers. According to reports, the assailant used petrol to ignite the fire while worshippers were praying.

Eyewitnesses revealed that the arsonist locked the mosque door after setting it on fire, trapping worshippers inside and worsening the situation. One eyewitness told Daily Trust, “It took time for people outside to become aware of the incident and rescue the victims who were struggling to break out of the burning building.”

At least 20 worshippers were injured in the attack, prompting an urgent response from emergency services. The injured were transported to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano for medical treatment.

The Kano State Police Command has yet to comment on the incident.
