Kaduna residents celebrate as TCN restores power after nine-days blackout

[By Abigail Philip David]

Kaduna residents took to the streets in celebration after electricity was restored to their area, ending a nine-day blackout.

In a viral video posted by X user #Imranmuhdz on Thursday, the crowd can be heard chanting “Nepa, Nepa tadawo” in Hausa, showing their joy over the return of power.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced on Wednesday that electricity supply had been partially restored to seven Northern states, including Kaduna, after the Shiroro-Kaduna transmission line was vandalized, causing widespread outages.

The incident left Lafia, Makurdi, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Bauchi, and Gombe without power for nine days. TCN confirmed that power was restored by 4:56 PM on Wednesday following repairs to the 330kV Ugwuaji-Apir transmission line 1.
