Kaduna residents decry over exploits as monthly electric bills hit N66,000

…As Ex Generals, residents threatens protest

Barely four months after, electricity consumers and residents of Barkallau GRA kaduna have decried what they described as cheating and over exploitation of consumers by kaduna Electric distribution Company (KEDCO).
through outrageous bills.

A consumers had just Thursday complained bitterly of outrageous electricity bill to her residents in Barkallau and warned KEDCO to quickly withdraw the N66,000 February monthly bills given her or disconnected their light.

Recalled that residents of the Barkallau GRA including some retired Generals had last four months threatened to protest against the outrageous bills flooding their area on Monthly basis.
KEDCO, according to the victim woman who is married to a retied General, on February 2021 billed her N66,000 as her electricity tariff for the month of February alone.

The resident who gave her statement as “Account Name, Jamilah Garba home Address bills, Zurmi Road, Barakallahu GRA, (U1011) (U101 re1). The Bill As At February 2021, #65,954.72”, lamented that January 2021 monthly bill was also over N62,000.

Barkallau community located along kaduna – Zaria expressway had on several occasions alarmed journalists over crazy bills deliberately targeted at the area with the aim to extorting Money from the residents by the company by Force.

An occupant and volunteer electricity bill consumer coordinator of the crazy bills in the area, one Engr. Machido had told journalists that he made several efforts in the past to report the matter to the top management staffs of the company but were futile due to frustration by the marketers who always threatened them with disconnection.

Engr. Machido in a chat said several others efforts were made but “KEDCO said till February 2021, before it will be ready, but they gave like 2 of us that applied first”, for the prepaid metter.

Machido however said they met with an official “and he collected the copy of my bill. I just share on our community WhatsApp group.

Engr. Machido had late last year 2020 complained that the least monthly electricity bills coming to their area was between N15,000 to N50,000 and above, and sorted for assistant of Media to exposed the extortions.

Contacted on several occasions, both the top management, the media and communication department officials of the company could not respond till the time of this report.
Although KEDCO media official, Idris Mohammed had on behalf of his senior made several promises to ensure the estate is metered but ended up allegedly assisted few (4), including Machido who allegedly paid heavily before they were assisted and metered.
