Kano Police Bolster Joint Patrols Amid Rising Insecurity

In response to the escalating insecurity in some northern states, the Kano State Police Command has heightened joint security patrols along major highways connecting Kano to regions grappling with security challenges like banditry and kidnapping.

Speaking in a telephone interview on Sunday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna, disclosed that the intensified joint patrol focuses on key routes linking Kano State with Kaduna, Katsina, and Bauchi states. Additionally, the command has deployed personnel to Falgore Forest, a notorious area known for harboring criminals, in Doguwa Local Government, which shares borders with Kaduna and Plateau states.

While Kano itself may not be facing severe security challenges, the police are taking proactive measures to ensure the safety and security of the state. Falgore Forest, previously a haven for cattle rustlers, armed robbers, bandits, and kidnappers, is now under increased surveillance to prevent criminal activities originating from neighboring states.

“We have made a massive deployment of armed personnel to Falgore Forest, which shares a border with Kaduna state as part of measures being taken to check activities of bandits coming from that state (Kaduna),” stated SP Abdullahi Haruna.

The police have also initiated community engagement policing, encouraging residents to actively provide relevant information on criminal activities. This approach has proven effective, leading to the apprehension of informants and criminals in various parts of the state.

Usaini Gumel, the Kano State Police Commissioner, has directed Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers across the 44 local government areas of the state to intensify patrols and safeguard against potential attacks by bandits. The proactive strategies and community engagement have contributed significantly to maintaining peace in Kano.

This effort aligns with the directives and vision of Inspector General Egbetokun for all police commands and formations to implement community-based policing, intelligence-led policing, and the display of professional competence for effective service delivery.
