Kano State Governor’s Fate Hangs in the Balance as Court Reserves Judgment on Election Appeal

By Milcah Tanimu

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has decided to reserve its judgment in the appeal filed by Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, challenging his removal following a decision by the Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal.

The tribunal had, on September 20, invalidated Yusuf’s election, citing 165,663 of his votes as invalid. The tribunal’s verdict was based on the grounds that the ballot papers used were not properly signed or stamped by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). As a result, the tribunal declared the All Progressives Congress candidate, Nasiru Gawuna, as the winner of the governorship election.

More details on this case will be provided later as the Court of Appeal prepares to deliver its judgment.
