KEDCO Pledges Improved Service, Better Staff Welfare

By Jabiru Hassan

The management of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has reaffirmed its commitment to improved service delivery and enhanced staff welfare across its franchise states.

The Managing Director, Dr Abubakar Shu’aibu Jimeta, made this known during an interactive session with journalists, where he said the company’s leadership is working to strengthen operations while prioritising the welfare of employees.

Dr Jimeta said KEDCO is taking concrete steps to address staff-related concerns, including resolving legacy unpaid entitlements owed to workers. He stressed that the management would honour all agreements previously reached with labour unions.

According to him, the company has already paid 15 months out of the 19 months of outstanding legacy funds, describing the development as a significant achievement. He added that the ongoing industrial action at the company’s headquarters should be called off, as management is making visible efforts to resolve all welfare-related issues.

The managing director also said the reforms are part of broader efforts to reposition KEDCO as one of Nigeria’s leading electricity distribution companies. He cited the recent promotion of 1,500 staff out of about 2,000 employees as evidence of management’s commitment to staff development and motivation.

KEDCO recently faced industrial action after the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies and the National Union of Electricity Employees shut down its headquarters over alleged poor working conditions. However, the management maintained that steps are being taken to improve staff welfare and restore normal operations.

Dr Jimeta assured consumers, employees and other stakeholders that workers’ welfare remains a top priority, adding that measures are being implemented to restore stability and maintain industrial harmony within the company.
