KGIRS Targets Over ₦3bn Monthly Revenue in 2026

By Noah Ocheni, Lokoja

The Chairman of the Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (KGIRS), Alhaji Salihu Enehe, has assured that the agency is working towards surpassing its current ₦3 billion monthly revenue generation by 2026.

Enehe gave the assurance on Thursday in Lokoja during a Stewardship and Accountability Forum organised by the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kogi State Council.

According to him, KGIRS has successfully increased its monthly revenue from ₦750 million to ₦3 billion through the introduction of a Central Billing System and Automated Taxation, which helped reduce leakages in revenue collection.

“Our projection is to raise the figure further to ₦4 billion monthly,” he stated, adding that his administration has also ensured that the 10 percent of internally generated revenue (IGR) retained by the agency is judiciously utilised in paying staff salaries and running day-to-day operations.

He noted that measures had been put in place to boost staff morale and productivity, including regular promotions, adherence to seniority, and capacity-building initiatives.

The KGIRS boss further expressed optimism that the new Nigeria Revenue Tax Act, expected to take effect in January next year, would harmonise all tax laws into a single document, thereby reducing double taxation and enhancing the state’s revenue profile.

Enehe urged residents of Kogi State to embrace prompt tax payment to enable government to deliver more dividends of democracy, while assuring that the agency would continue partnering with journalists to promote transparency and public awareness.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Mr. Segun Salami, explained that the forum was designed to provide leaders a platform to highlight their achievements and challenges in the discharge of their duties.
