Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, on Thursday, urged All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates and stakeholders to ensure the party’s sweeping victory in the upcoming local government election on October 19.
Speaking at the APC campaign flag-off held at Muhammadu Buhari Square in Lokoja, Governor Ododo emphasized the need for total commitment to the party’s success across all local councils.
Joined by party leaders from the state’s three senatorial districts, Ododo highlighted the achievements of the APC-led administration since 2015. He also presented the APC scorecard, showcasing the progress made under the party’s leadership.
He pointed out the administration’s implementation of the 40 percent affirmative action for women, noting that all vice chairmanship positions and at least four councillorship seats in each of the 21 local government areas have been reserved for women.
Ododo further emphasized that appointments of Ward Special Assistants and Local Government Special Assistants have reconnected governance to the grassroots. He assured that the APC will continue using the state’s resources to alleviate poverty and further the government’s achievements in various sectors.
“Our state is blessed with abundant mineral resources and human capital that can lift us out of poverty,” Ododo said. “We must work hard to build on the solid foundation laid by my predecessor. Come October 19, I urge you to vote en masse for all APC chairmanship candidates in the 21 local government areas and for our councillorship candidates in the 239 electoral wards.”
The governor also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for its efforts to tackle Nigeria’s economic challenges, reaffirming Kogi State’s commitment to policies that ease hardship for citizens.
State APC Chairman Alhaji Abdullahi Bello, in his address, praised Governor Ododo’s leadership, which he said has made the election campaign more straightforward for the party. Bello encouraged party members to engage in door-to-door campaigns to secure a decisive win.
The event, which saw a large turnout of APC members from all 21 local government areas, also featured the defection of Hon. Salman Idris, representing Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency, from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the APC.
The high point of the ceremony was Governor Ododo’s presentation of APC flags to the party’s chairmanship candidates from all local government areas.
