Kogi Govt. Orders For Immediate Dismantling Of Roadblocks In The State

The commissioner for Finance, Budget, and Economic Planning Hon. Asiwaju Idris on Friday in Lokoja directed for immediate dismantling of roadblocks in the state.

The dismantling of roadblocks according to him became necessary so as to pave way for effective collection of revue accrued to the state.

He therefore directed all local council chairmen to henceforth take full charge of all revenue collections and ensure that people extorting money under the pretense of revenue collection in the state should vacate the roads within the next 24 hours.

In a press statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the ministry, Princess Funsho Sumanu
Said the commissioner, who also doubles as the Alternate Chairman of the Economic Council, stated this during the third Economic Council meeting.

The commissioner who maintained that local council members are saddled with the responsibility of proposing ways of improving the internally generated revenue in the state said that the state government is committed to strengthening the state economy.

Hon. Idris who reminded council chairmen of the need to be proactive in the discharge of the task ahead, however, appealed to members to support the efforts of the state government towards achieving a vibrant economy in the state.

They also resolved that Ejiba Rice Mill should be a concession to a competent firm that can effectively manage it. “The contractor handling the project has also been directed to hand it over to the Hon. Commissioner for Agriculture with immediate effect .”

The Local Government chairmen who are also members of the State Economic Council were also directed to submit their proposals to the implementation committee of ‘One Local Governments, One Product Initiatives.’

Council leaders, supervisors of related departments, chairman of a council committee, Civil servants comprising of DPM, treasurer, HOD of works and agriculture, land officers, and other related departments should also form part of the committee.
