Kogi Police Command arrests 19-year-old boy for burying step-brother alive in Kogi

By Noah Ocheni, Lokoja

A 19-year-old boy, identified as Goodness Oshodi, who allegedly buried his younger brother, Friday Oshodi alive in Kogi State has been arrested by the Police.

Goodness Oshodi, who allegedly buried his step-brother, Friday Oshhodi, alive on the instruction of his mother for allegedly stealing N1,000 was caught by a neighbour commiting the offence.

According to an eye witness, the incident happened Tuesday evening at Apamsede Community, in Adavi local government area of the state. The victim was however lucky to have been rescued by neighbours.

Sources at Apamsede told our correspondent that Friday is noted for stealing, adding that, to check his criminal act, his step- mother asked his Elder brother, Goodness to punish him.

They added that rather than giving Friday tolerable punishment, Goodness led him to a nearby bush and buried him alive.

Our correspondent further gathered that luck, however, ran out of Goodness as he was caught in the heinous crime by some vigilante members in the area who exhumed Friday alive and reported the case to the police.

The elder brother in executing the directive of his mother first beat Friday to stupor before deciding to bury him alive.

Speaking on why he decided to bury his step-brother alive, Goodness said he was only carrying out the instructions of his mother who asked him to punish his brother for stealing her N10,000 and tried to run away with it as he normally does.

According to him, the mother, who instructed him to punish Friday, was away to church when he buried him alive.

The Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP. William Ovie Aya confirmed the incident on Wednesday, saying the Police has arrested Goodness, stressing that the Command has commenced an investigation into the case.

His words, “The suspect has been arrested and taken into custody. The victim is seven years old. Information at our disposal revealed that the victim used to steal. When he stole money, he ran away from the house, but later came back.”

“When he came back, he stole another money again. So, the mother instructed his elder brother  to punish him. So, the brother went ahead to dig the ground to punish him. So, they just want to deal with him, before some nearby neighbours discover what was happening and rescued him”. Police said.
