The Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Police Command, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, psc, mni, has extended warm New Year greetings to residents, pledging continued commitment to the protection of lives and property across the state.In a statement signed by CSP William Ovye Aya, Police Public Relations Officer, CP Kankarofi described the New Year as a period of renewed hope, unity, and collective responsibility. He emphasized that security is a shared duty between law enforcement and citizens.
“Since assuming office, I have stressed the importance of proactive policing, intelligence-led operations, and strong community collaboration as essential tools for sustaining peace and public safety,” the CP said. He called on residents to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and supportive of police efforts.Reflecting on achievements in November and December 2025, CP Kankarofi highlighted:
– Arrest of 82 suspects involved in crimes, including 42 kidnappers, 22 armed robbers, 9 homicide cases, 5 unlawful possession of firearms, and 4 rape cases.
– Rescue of 102 victims of kidnapping and other crimes.
– Foiling of criminal plots, preventing potential harm to communities.
- – Recovery of arms, including 3 AK47 rifles, 1 AK49 rifle, 22 Dane guns, 3 locally made pistols, and live ammunition.
- – Strengthening community trust through proactive engagement and outreach.
CP Kankarofi commended the leadership of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, for advancing community policing initiatives and enhancing crime-fighting strategies across the state. He also expressed appreciation to Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo for unwavering support to the police command, noting that government backing has contributed significantly to the command’s successes. The CP urged continued cooperation from all residents, traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, and stakeholders to maintain peace and discourage criminality in 2026.
The CP further praised the dedication and professionalism of officers within the command, which he said has been instrumental in achieving these results. He reassured the public that the command remains committed to upholding discipline, human rights, and innovative strategies to tackle emerging security challenges.“ As we enter 2026, I urge everyone to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station. Together, we can make Kogi State the safest in Nigeria,” CP Kankarofi said.The Kogi State Police Command concluded by thanking residents for their cooperation and wishing all citizens a safe, peaceful, and prosperous New Year.
