Kogi Repatriates 78 Destitute Off Lokoja Streets To Their States Of Origin

The Kogi State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Fatima Kabir Buba said the ministry has evacuated beggars and the mentally ill persons from streets of Lokoja the Kogi state capital.

The Commissioner disclosed that beggars were evacuated from different parts of Lokoja metropolis including Zango, Ganaja village, Obasanjo Square and other areas to the Ministry’s rehabilitation center.

The destitutes according to the commissioner have been transported back to their various home states in about six buses to the Northern part of the Country which includes Katsina, Kaduna, Kano , Bauchi, Zamfara state respectively.

The Commissioner disclosed that the evacuation exercise was not discriminatory but to rid the street of beggars roaming the Lokoja Metropolis.

Hajia Buba who pointed out that they were fed and provided with basic needs before the commencement of their journey to their states and Local Government Area of origin stressed that adequate arrangements have been made to ensure that they were delivered at their respective locations with utmost respect and dignity.

She promised that the state government under the leadership of His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello will not relent it’s effort in getting beggars off the street.

Hajiya Fatima commended the Governor of the state his Excellency Alhaji yahaya Bello and the first lady her Excellency Hajiya Rashida Bello for their immense support throughout the exercise.
