Langtang North Gets FM Radio

By Ugar Ukandi Odey, Jos

Langtang North local government council has taken the lead among the local government councils in the country by acquiring a license, and establishing an FM Radio station as part of its initiatives to boost government-people interface as elixir for popular participation in its development programmes.

The Executive Chairman of the Council, Honourable Joshua Laven Ubandoma, who visited the site of the Radio station to inspect progress of work as part of activities to commemorate his one year in office, expressed satisfaction with the quality and progress of work.

He said the Radio station, already named Star FM, was conceived, and is implemented to fill a critical and strategic gap in the development needs and aspirations of the people who have been in dire need of adequate information exchange and flow in the locality, and outward to the rest of the world.

Ubandoma said the station will help to upgrade the ability of signals from other radio stations to be received with qualitative clarity in Langtang North and environs, noting that the location of the area at the foot of the Plateau has been responsible for poor reception and weak broadcast signals and sometimes wavelength fluctuations degenerating to outright blackout.

On content, programming, and professionalism, Ubandoma said already consultants have been engaged and committed to run and operate the FM station competitively and in conformity with global industry best practices, just as the radio will also enhance Taroh cultural expression and identity.

According to Ubandoma, the radio project will also assuage challenges in employment, revenue generation, and give a sense of pride to the people.
