Makinde: My Political Journey Incomplete Without Ladoja’s Influence

Must read

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has credited his rise to governorship in 2019 to the pivotal role played by former governor and Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja.

Makinde made this statement during a visit to Ladoja’s private residence on Ondo Street, Ibadan, to celebrate the elder statesman’s 80th birthday on Wednesday. Reflecting on his political journey, Makinde emphasized that he could not recount his political history without acknowledging Ladoja’s significant contribution.

He acknowledged that despite any political differences they might have had, he remains deeply indebted to Ladoja. “My political trajectory cannot be complete without mentioning Baba’s name. Daddy was the one who midwifed the process that led to my emergence as governor in 2019. There’s no way to write my political history without including him,” Makinde said.

The governor expressed his hope for reconciliation and alignment, stating that Ladoja still has much to offer the state. He also took the opportunity to publicly thank Ladoja for his past support and leadership, adding that they will continue to rely on his guidance.

“Today is a special day for me, for Ibadanland, and for the state, as one of our leading lights is celebrating his 80th birthday. Baba, you still have many roles to play, and we will always look forward to your leadership,” Makinde added.

The birthday celebration was attended by notable dignitaries and religious leaders, including Senator Sharafadeen Alli, Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, and ship magnate Isaac Jolapamo. Prayers were offered by Muslim, Christian, and traditional worshippers, all praising Ladoja as a resilient and exemplary leader in Ibadan, Oyo State, and Nigeria as a whole.
