In a legal proceeding at the Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, a 60-year-old man named Bamidele Haruna was brought before the bench for allegedly submitting a forged National Identification Number (NIN) while acting as a surety in a Federal High Court case.

The defendant stands accused of three charges including conspiracy, forgery, perjury, and impersonation, as filed by the police.

According to the prosecutor, Inspector Cyriacus Osuji, Haruna, in collaboration with unidentified individuals, committed the offenses on March 5, 2023, during working hours at the Federal High Court Lagos division in Ikoyi.

It is alleged that Haruna presented a Deed of Indenture to the Federal High Court for verification, using false representation. Additionally, he purportedly swore an affidavit of means under a different name, Bamidele Fagbamila, which he also used in the National Identity Management System, despite knowing it to be untrue.

The charges brought against Haruna are in violation of Sections 411, 365 (1) (a), (b), and 85 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

During the proceedings, Haruna pleaded guilty to the charges.

As a result, Magistrate Oluwatosin Erinle adjourned the case until March 19, 2024, for the presentation of facts and sentencing.
