Man Sets Wife Ablaze Over Alleged Infidelity in Anambra

Tragedy struck in Eziezekwe village, Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, as a man identified as Nwana reportedly set his wife, Chioma Nwana, ablaze during a confrontation over alleged infidelity.

The incident occurred on Tuesday evening after Nwana accused his wife of having an affair. Following the altercation, he allegedly poured petrol on her and set her on fire. Chioma, who sustained critical burns, was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday morning.

### **Eyewitness Accounts**
A community source revealed that the argument began when Chioma returned home after an alleged outing with another man.

“The woman returned home on Tuesday evening, and her husband accused her of infidelity. During the confrontation, he poured petrol on her and set her ablaze. She was rushed to the hospital but sadly passed away this morning,” the source said.

The couple, who had six children, were reported to have been living together in the village before the incident.

Suspect Confesses to Crime
After committing the act, Nwana reportedly surrendered himself at the Abagana Divisional Police Station, where he confessed to the crime.

Police Response
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident, stating that the suspect is in custody and the case has been escalated.

Ikenga said, “The suspect is in police custody. Unfortunately, the victim passed away this morning. The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Itam, has directed that the case be transferred to the Homicide Unit for a detailed investigation.”

The tragic event has left the community in shock as authorities continue their investigation into the matter.
