Many feared killed as Police opens fire on Shiites protesters in Kaduna

By Achadu Gabriel, Kaduna

Several persons may have been killed and many others sustained various degrees of injuries following Friday’s clash between Nigeria police and El-zazaky led Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) in Kaduna.

Eye witness attributed the conflict to a procession by the Shiites group to mark their support for Palestine before the end of Ramadan fasting, which occurred along Ahmadu Bello way in Kaduna main town.

According to eyewitness, police opened fire and tear gassed the protesters around cooperative Bus Stop along Ahmadu Bello way to disperse the Shiites procession.

Though the police command spokesman Asp Mansir Hassan denied knowledge of any shooting by the police, adding that Shiites used dangerous weapon which led to the police response to resist and protect themselves against attacks.

Police is however yet to release any official statement on the incident when contacted through office of the Kaduna state command spokesman, Asp Mansir Hassan.
