Renowned Nigerian journalist and media strategist Uchenna Awom has marked his 62nd birthday, drawing tributes from colleagues, associates, and admirers across the media and public affairs space. Awom, widely respected for decades of service in journalism and political communication, has devoted more than half of his professional life to the Fourth Estate of the Realm, building a reputation for experience, versatility, and institutional memory.
His career spans several leading media organisations. He served as Correspondent and National Assembly Correspondent at Daily Independent, where he authored the column “Reps Pebbles” for four years, and later as Chief Correspondent at Daily Times of Nigeria. He has also held senior editorial roles including Bureau Chief and Head of Northern Operations at Niger-Delta Newspapers, Assistant Editor (Politics) at Leadership Newspapers, Deputy News Editor, and Group Political Editor at Leadership Group.
Beyond the newsroom, Awom has provided strategic communication support in public service. He served as Chief Press Secretary to former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Patricia Etteh, and as Media Consultant to the Senate Committee on Information, Media and Public Affairs between 2013 and 2015.
He is currently the Media Adviser to Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe. Awom holds a BSc (Hons) in Political Science, an MSc in International Relations, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Journalism. His 62nd birthday marks another milestone in a career that continues to influence Nigerian media and public communication.
