Mohbad: Senator Abbo vows to prosecute anyone implicated

Senator Ishaku Abbo, who represents Adamawa State North Senatorial District, has affirmed his commitment to prosecuting anyone implicated in the police investigation regarding the death of Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad. Mohbad, a former artist under Afeez Fashola (popularly known as Naira Marley) Marlians record label, tragically passed away on September 12, 2023.

Senator Abbo, accompanied by Nollywood actresses Iyabo Ojo and Tonto Dikeh, paid a condolence visit to the late artist’s family. In his capacity as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Entertainment Economy, he announced that the Senate would examine the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death.

Furthermore, Senator Abbo pledged to lead the campaign for the establishment of a Creative Economy Commission. He revealed that the Senate had already passed a Bill, which had received third-reading approval and the endorsement of the presidency. This Bill aims to create funds to support victims in situations similar to the EndSARS movement, as well as victims of violence or extremism, ensuring that their families can benefit.

Senator Abbo stated, “I’m here to console the family. When we heard of your son’s death and the controversies that appeared on social media, we felt it was important that we come here to console your family.” He emphasized that no one is above the law and pointed out that the acting Inspector General of Police had initiated an investigation into the matter. He assured that the Nigeria Police would prosecute anyone found guilty in Mohbad’s death.

Senator Abbo stressed the importance of equality and advised the grieving mother not to be intimidated, saying, “No one should live in fear. We are all free people.”

Additionally, he mentioned that Nigerians have been advocating for a commission within the creative industry to resolve disputes between record labels and their signees.

Earlier today, the Lagos State Police Command confirmed the exhumation of the late singer’s body and the arrest of the nurse who administered an injection to him.
