MTV Base Bans Naira Marley’s Videos Following Mohbad’s Death

By Daniel Edu

International music channel MTV Base has taken a stance to halt the airing of all music videos featuring the popular Nigerian artist Azeez Fashola, widely known as Naira Marley. This decision comes amidst mounting protests and concerns following the tragic passing of the fast-rising singer Ilerioluwa Promise Aloba, who was known as Mohbad.

It’s worth noting that several television and radio stations have previously implemented bans on Naira Marley’s songs and content produced by his record label, Marlian Music.

Ehizojie Okoeguale, also known as DadaBoy Ehiz, a former MTV Base staff member, confirmed this development in a post on his social media account on Wednesday. He commended the music channel for its decision to halt the broadcast of Naira Marley’s videos until further notice.

In his words, “Mtvbase dropped everything Marlian … kudos to them.” He also expressed his sorrow over Mohbad’s passing, saying, “Rest In Power IMOLE. All he wanted was to make music.”

Recall that Mohbad tragically passed away last week Tuesday and was laid to rest in Ikorodu, Lagos State, the following Wednesday. Shortly after his death, fans and supporters of the late artist took to social media, accusing Naira Marley and music promoter Sam Larry of being responsible for his untimely demise.

In response to these concerns, the Lagos State Police Command has formed a special investigative team to look into Mohbad’s death. This team is expected to provide an interim report within two weeks.
