Nasarawa 2019: Fmr YOWICAN President harps on consensus Christian candidate

By Peter Ahemba

IMMEDIATE PAST national President, Youth Wing Christian Association of Nigeria, YOWICAN, Engr. Daniel Kadzai has advocated the need for Christian leaders in Nasarawa state to mediate between governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Hon. David Ombugadu and that of the All Progressive Grand Alliance Mr. Labaran Maku so as to come up with a consensus Christian candidate ahead of the 2019 general election.

Kadzai, who made the advocacy today in Lafia while addressing Christian communities in the state, noted that unless the Christian leaders bring together the two candidates and choose one among them to face the APC in the 2019 governorship election, the long term agitation of a Christian governor will be a wasted effort.

The ruling All Progressive Congress,  APC, in the state has chosen Engr. Abdullahi Sule, a Muslim as its governorship candidate while the PDP and APGA both have christians as their candidates.

The former YOWICAN President, who is presently the chairman Global Christian Network, maintained that ” Nasarawa state has for too long descriminated agaisnt Christians in the selection of governor despite the fact that over 50% of the state population are Christians”

“The time for redress has come, not only because it is just but because many Christians have now come to realise that their votes have been taken for granted for too long”

“The powerless post of deputy governor has been reserved for us Christians, which means we are regarded as second class citizens despite the fact that we contribute maximally to the revenue of the state and stabilise crime because of the Christian value”

“Even in the mix of crisis , you discover that the Christian young men don’t retaliate or get provoked, it is because of what we learnt in the church, and if we are doing all this and suddenly we don’t have a fair share of governance in Nasarawa state , it means something is wrong somewhere”

He urged the church leaders to immediately meet and come out with a consensus candidate between the two or the youths will meet to take a decision to team up with one person during the elections.
