Nasarawa: NUP Distance Self from Feud between Concern Group and Nasarawa state Government.

By Abel Leonard

Nigerian union of pensioners Nasarawa chapter has distance self from the ongoing feud between Nasarawa state Government and Grass Root Concern Group of pensioners in the state.

This was disclosed in a press release presented by the state chairman, Abdulahi Garba Tsoho, at the Nigeria Union of Journalist press Centre today in lafia.

The union however stressed that only six hundred and fifty pensioners out of nine hundred are involved in the odd act perpetrated by the group of concern pensioners, saying, dialogue through diplomatic process is most credible in finding out solution to problems of this nature which has been their disposition from time immemorial and has yielded positive results in dealings with the government.

However, Rule 38 of the constitution of the union stressed on the need for a harmonious relationship with employee, adding that the magnum amity exhibited by the executive Governor of Nasarawa State Engr. Abdulahi Sule since assuming office in may 2019 on the sympathetic plight of pensioners accorded the union the opportunity for frequent dialogue on pension matters.

The union also said the issue of payment of pension on percentage and the commencement of payment of gratuity to local government retirees have been put on hold in the last ten years in addition to upward review of monthly remittance in that regard.

The chapter wishes to advise the state government to be wary of elements that under the guise of fighting for their right have ulterior motive to truncate the good intention of the present administration in bringing sanity to pension matter in the state.

The union rejects in total any move by the opposition to use the union to achieve their political agenda, calling on the entire membership of the union of pension in the state to remain calm and have confidence on the present leadership of the union while it intensify effort in protecting their interest urging them to disregard any information emanating from the concern group as there is only one legally constituted union of pension in the state.

You will recall Daybreake news reports that at the commencement of the struggles of pensioners in the state, Grass Root Concern Group instituted a legal action against the state government on its inability to settle their gratuity and stoppage of percentage payment of pension which led to the frozen of Nasarawa State Governments account.
