National Boundary Commission to Use Drones for Boundary Management by 2025

By  Milcah  Tanimu

The National Boundary Commission (NBC) will deploy drones and advanced geospatial technologies for boundary management by 2025. This will improve efficiency and the accuracy of boundary surveys in Nigeria.

During the 2024 end-of-year media briefing in Abuja, NBC Director-General, Mr. Adamu Adaji, outlined plans to enhance boundary management. He explained that significant investments in training staff would ensure the effective use of these new technologies.

Adaji also highlighted the NBC’s efforts to modernize its archives. The commission has digitized records and conducted studies on key boundaries to inform conflict resolution strategies.

The NBC made significant strides in resolving interstate boundary disputes in 2024. Notable efforts were made in the Anambra/Enugu, Benue/Nasarawa, and Kebbi/Niger disputes. These initiatives aimed at fostering peace and development.

The deployment of drones and advanced technology demonstrates the NBC’s commitment to modernizing boundary management and promoting stability along Nigeria’s borders
