New CP Reads Riot Act To Police Officers, Warns against extortion, corrupt practices In Kogi

The New CP, Edward Chuka Egbuka in charge of Kogi Police command on Friday warned Police Officers in the state against infringing on the rights of citizens as defaulters of the order would be sanctioned.

The Commissioner of Police who gave the order during his maiden meeting with top police officers in the state, promised to run an open door policy that would guarantee effective operation of the police without fear and favour.

“I will not tolerate jungle justice, illegality and the use of self-help by the police and the general public” the CP further warned.

“Police should strive to reciprocate government’s gesture of enhancing their salaries and allowances as well as resist the temptation of extorting members of the public” he also advised.

Egbuka however, solicited public support in making available useful information that would assist the police to track down criminal elements in the state.

He vowed to bring his over thirty years experience with the Nigeria Police to flush out criminal elements in the state.

The Commissioner promised to synergy with all other security and paramilitary agencies and all critical stakeholders towards making the state safe and secure, said it would be business unusual in fighting crimes and criminality in Kogi Stat to check extortion and in derailing his objectives of making the state safe.

He said having reviewed the Security architecture of the state, he is resolved in improving the Security of the State, assured that the Police Command will not rest on its oars in making the State crime free.

While complimenting the role of Vigilante and hunters group in the fight against banditry and other forms of crimes in the state, he however stressed the need for their activities tot be diligently guided and monitored by the police to avoid recklessness .

The CP pleaded for the cooperation of practising journalists in the state and all stakeholders and the public to always provide timely and actionable information to the police.

He also called on the media to promote stories that will help the police do better in the discharged of the Police, warned against sensational reporting that will promote and encourage crimes, said he has zero tolerance for extortion.
