From Abba Kabara, Gusau.

The newly deployed commissioner of police to Zamfara state, Mr. Zanna Muhammad Ibrahim has announced the introduction of a new operational policy for the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF)  tagged Standard Operational Policy (SOP), to avail them with safer and standard operational guidelines.

Mr. Zanna announced this today while briefing newsmen on the activities and achievements so far recorded by his command in its efforts to end armed banditry in the state.

He said the operational collaboration with the JTF has been very complimentary to the security in dealing with criminality in the state, particularly armed banditry and kidnapping.

Mr.  Zanna reassured that civilian JTF will continue to be carried along in the police activities and in any other engagement relevant to the ongoing battle against all forms of criminality in the state.

He, however, said, with the needed cooperation of the public “I am fully committed and battle ready to vehemently face the situation to ensure that the scourge is reduced to a tolerable level”, he stressed.

The new commissioner disclosed that as he was deployed barely a week ago, “I am studying and assessing the strategies on the ground to evaluate and consider areas for improvement and suggestions” he said.

He, however, gave assurance of serving on a neutral plane without any element of inclination to a political group or any other similar partisan inclination.

Showcasing some of the achievements recently recorded by his command, the commissioner disclosed that his command has successfully apprehended a notorious armed bandit and recovery of eleven locally fabricated, but well sophisticated for use in a serious operation.

The suspect Umaru Shehu (34) of Tungar Mallam Village of Bukkuyum local government was confirmed to have been partisan among the syndicate terrorizing communities of his local government.

The suspect is also proved to be a gunrunner as the eleven fabricated guns were recovered from him meant for distribution to his co-partners.
