Nigeria at 65: Gov. Uba Sani Urges Unity, Highlights Kaduna’s Development Strides

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has called on Nigerians to remain united, resilient, and hopeful as the nation marks its 65th Independence Anniversary, assuring that both Kaduna and Nigeria are on the path to renewal and progress despite daunting challenges.

In his Independence Day broadcast on Wednesday, the governor described the anniversary as a celebration of resilience and a moment of sober reflection on the sacrifices of Nigeria’s founding fathers. He stressed that their legacy of unity and determination must inspire present and future generations.

“Nigeria has faced political, economic, and social trials, but through it all, our people have shown remarkable capacity to endure and to hope. Together, we are overcoming; together, we are rising,” the governor said.

Kaduna’s Development Agenda

Governor Sani outlined his administration’s key achievements and ongoing initiatives aimed at fostering inclusive growth across the state:

  1. Infrastructure and Economic Connectivity
    • 85 urban and rural road projects covering 785 kilometres launched.
    • Nearly half already completed, easing trade, travel, and market access.
    • Bridges and public utilities being rebuilt to attract investment.
  2. Rural Transformation and Agricultural Revival
    • Reopening of Birnin Gwari Livestock Market and Kidandan Market in Giwa.
    • Over 500,000 hectares of farmland reclaimed to boost food production and security.
    • Renewed confidence in rural communities through revitalised local economies.
  3. Human Capital Development
    • Over 10,728 out-of-school children returned to classrooms under the Reaching Out-of-School Children Project.
    • 535 schools previously shut due to insecurity reopened.
    • Teacher training, school upgrades, and digital learning tools being deployed.
    • 255 Primary Health Care Centres upgraded to improve access to essential services.
    • Three vocational institutes established to equip youths and women with market-ready skills.
  4. Agriculture and Food Security
    • Over 10% of the 2025 state budget allocated to agriculture — the highest in recent years.
    • Investments focused on smallholder farmers, climate-smart practices, and value-chain development.
  5. Peacebuilding and Social Inclusion
    • Expansion of community policing and deeper collaboration with security agencies.
    • Support for victims of conflict and reconciliation programmes across diverse communities.
    • Emphasis on justice, equity, and inclusion as pillars of governance.

A Call for Shared Responsibility

Governor Sani reminded citizens that development cannot be achieved by government alone.

“Development is a shared responsibility. Every citizen must contribute through acts of peace, civic participation, and an unwavering belief in the promise of our state and our nation,” he said.

He reaffirmed Kaduna’s support for President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which he said is driving bold reforms to secure peace, restore prosperity, and entrench democratic governance nationwide.

A Message of Hope

As the nation marks 65 years of independence, Governor Sani urged Nigerians to remain optimistic.

“Nigeria’s future remains bright, and Kaduna’s role in that future is significant. With God’s guidance and our collective resolve, we will overcome our challenges and realise the full potential of our state and country,” he declared.

He concluded by wishing Nigerians a happy Independence Day, praying for continued peace and prosperity in Kaduna and the entire country.
