Nigeria at 65: Igoche Mark Salutes Athletes for Global Contributions

As Nigeria marked its 65th Independence anniversary on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, basketball promoter and initiator of the Mark D’Ball Basketball Championship, Mr. Igoche Mark, has paid tribute to Nigerian athletes for their contributions to national pride and international recognition.In a goodwill message, Mark commended both active and retired athletes for their dedication and achievements, noting that their efforts have consistently placed Nigeria on the global stage. “Your dedication, hard work, and achievements have not only brought us pride but have also inspired a generation of Nigerians,” he said. Mark urged the National Sports Commission to create a platform to celebrate athletes and preserve their legacies. He also emphasized the importance of engaging athletes beyond their active years in sports administration and mentorship.

He further recommended structured retirement plans to help athletes transition smoothly into post-sports life, alongside welfare packages covering healthcare, education, and economic empowerment programs. “By doing so, we can show our appreciation for their service and ensure that they are taken care of,” Mark added.His remarks came as Nigeria celebrated its 65th Independence anniversary under the theme: “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation.”
