Nigeria and Germany have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening defence cooperation through the signing of a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the German Technical Advisory Group.
The agreement, announced in a statement by Mr. Sunday Iyogu, a Principal Information Officer in Nigeria’s Ministry of Defence, was formalized on Friday in Abuja.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Gabriel Aduda, described the MoU as a strategic funding arrangement that highlights the strong defence ties between both nations. He emphasized that the renewed agreement aligns with Nigeria and Germany’s shared security and development objectives.
Aduda assured that Nigeria remains committed to ensuring accountability and efficiency in executing the agreement, with strict adherence to timelines and rigorous monitoring to guarantee effective implementation. He also noted that all procurement aspects would undergo thorough evaluation to ensure value for money.
On his part, the German Defence Attaché to Nigeria, Col. Boris Bovekemp, reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to strengthening cooperation in defence, security, and capacity-building initiatives. He praised the enduring partnership between both countries and stressed the importance of enhancing existing agreements to tackle evolving security challenges.
The renewed MoU marks another significant milestone in Nigeria-Germany defence relations, reinforcing efforts to improve security, technical cooperation, and capacity development.
