“Nigerian Army Chief Vows to Address Challenges in Fight Against Boko Haram”

By  Milcah Tanimu

Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s determination to tackle the challenges hindering troops’ operations in the ongoing battle to eliminate the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists.

During an operational visit to the North East Theatre of Operation (OPHK) at Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri, General Lagbaja expressed his commitment to addressing the issues affecting the troops. He highlighted the essential support provided by President Bola Tinubu and Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa and emphasized that comprehensive security measures would be implemented not only in the North East but across the country.

General Lagbaja expressed concern over the rising incidents of kidnappings, banditry, and the planting of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) by terrorists on highways. He assured that these new security challenges would be swiftly dealt with.

Explaining his visit to Borno, General Lagbaja mentioned that he had previously visited the theatre during Eid-El Kabir celebrations after assuming office on June 23. His return was for an operational visit, where he would be briefed by the Theatre Commander on operational, administrative, and security matters. He aimed to engage directly with troops to gain firsthand information on the challenges faced by formations and units and promptly address them.

General Lagbaja also commissioned a newly constructed two-story building for 30 families of Corporal and below ranks in the Nigerian Army. The building would be allocated to the beneficiaries and their families, reflecting the Army’s commitment to improving the welfare of its personnel.
