Nigerian Army Reaffirms Commitment to Combat Insecurity

By  Milcah   Tanimu

Maj. Gen. Kevin Aligbe, the Commander of the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) of the Nigerian Army, has reiterated the commitment of the army to combat insecurity in Nigeria. He stated that officers and soldiers will persist in their fight against insecurity until they successfully restore peace and can return to their barracks.

Speaking during a cocktail party honoring candidates of the 2024 Captain to Major Practical Promotion Examination (CMPPE) in Akure, Aligbe praised the over 200 participating captains from various formations across the country for their discipline and conduct throughout the examination.

He acknowledged that while the examination’s outcome would qualify them for selection to attend the Junior Staff Course at Jaji or other international staff colleges, a greater responsibility lies ahead. Aligbe emphasized the importance of their roles in bringing peace to the country, stating, “We must finish this fight so that we can return to the barracks and face some other things.”

Moreover, he highlighted that the army could be called back to support regional or global peace efforts, reinforcing his confidence that the future of the army remains bright with the emergence of capable junior officers. He urged them to keep national interests at the forefront of their endeavors.

Maj. Gen. Obinna Onubogu, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 2 Division, who hosted the event, expressed gratitude to Army Headquarters for selecting the division to oversee the 2024 CMPPE. He commended the officers for their exemplary behavior during the examination, encouraging them to remain hopeful as they await the results.
