Nigerian Red Cross partners Foundation to train vulnerable youths for 25 years

The Nigerian Red Cross Society on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understating with Bamanga Tukur Foundation to cater for vulnerable Nigerians in the next 25 years.

Mr Abubakar Kende, Secretary General of the society said in Abuja during the signing that the collaboration would enhance and strengthen the services of the organisations in the country.

Kende said that the International Red Cross Movement has seven fundamental principles with the first as humanity, and that the society and the foundation had so many things in common.

“The society is a global voluntary, humanitarian movement, with over 13 million volunteers and staff in 192 countries, which seeks to alleviate human suffering wherever it may be found.

“The foundation promotes education, healthcare, youth empowerment, entrepreneurship and good governance among the people of Nigerian regardless of creed or ethnicity.

“This is where the vision of these two organisation collapses into humanity and voluntary service,’’ Kende said.

According to him, in the last three years the society’s 80 per cent intervention has been from international community.

He said that with the partnership it would attract more organisations to help reduce the suffering of Nigerian youths.

Kende said that during the COVID-19 pandemic the society engaged a lot of communities to give hope to 2,583 households across 12 states with cash transfer programme.

He said that the society and other partners would provide humanitarian support to victims of flood disaster in 16 states.

Dr Mohammed Nasidi, the Executive Director of the foundation, said that the priority of the foundation was education.

Nasidi said that in order to achieve its focus it needed to partner the society to get to the grassroots.

He said that the foundation had planned to train 200 people in Adamawa to equip them for jobs.

Nasidi said that the society would help the foundation in the area of health as it had experts in health area to achieve higher goals.

Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, a business mogul and former Minister of Industry, said the partnership would help the foundation to invest more in the area of education.

Tukur said, “we will be able to assist each other to make the world a better place.’’
