In a significant development for educational and diplomatic relations between Nigeria and Germany, twenty Nigerian students have been awarded scholarships to study at the prestigious European School of Management and Technology (ESMT) in Berlin.
The scholarships were announced during a special dinner in honor of Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, hosted by German entrepreneur Lars Windhorst. The event, held at the China Club in Berlin, was attended by key figures including Jörg Rocholl, President of ESMT Berlin, and Lars Windhorst, co-founder of Sapinda Group.
Ambassador Tuggar expressed his deep appreciation for the scholarships, highlighting the substantial opportunity they provide for the students. He praised ESMT Berlin for its exceptional reputation and the valuable educational experience the students will receive.
During his speech, Ambassador Tuggar also emphasized Nigeria’s growing economic potential and encouraged German businesses to explore investment opportunities in the country. He acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms, such as the removal of subsidies on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and the unification of the exchange rate, which are improving Nigeria’s economic environment.
The Ambassador called for increased focus on African infrastructure development by the Global North to support sustainable growth.
ESMT Berlin, established in 2002 by leading global companies, offers a range of prestigious academic programs and is known for its emphasis on leadership, innovation, and analytics. The scholarships are expected to significantly benefit the Nigerian students, enhancing their personal and professional development and contributing to Nigeria’s broader development goals.
